Marcel is aware of two significant facts concerning his biological father: Lord Sandor's abandonment of him and his mother, leading them to a life of poverty, and the advice that he should steer clear of the man. Nevertheless, Marcel decides to pursue a position as Lord Sandor's servant, driven by curiosity about the father he never had the chance to know. What starts as a simple attempt to gain insight into his father's life takes an unexpected turn when Lord Sandor not only acknowledges Marcel but extends an intriguing proposition.
